Why it matters for curly hair
Mineral oil sits on top of the hair and creates a barrier that prevents both moisture from getting in and moisture from escaping. While this can feel like 'sealing' in the short term, it actually blocks hydration from reaching the hair shaft and builds up over time. It is not water-soluble and requires a sulfate shampoo to remove, which then strips the hair further.
